Title : Purely Acoustic (2016)
It's difficult to describe the mastery that Russell Lloyd has over the guitar unless you've seen him play live - I've had the privilege to sit inches away as his fingers flow over the neck and strings, plucking intricate melodies and rhythms seemingly out of thin air.
This last year has seen him team up with Robert Parry for a series of spectacular gigs which were so well received it resulted in this album. Recorded at Andy King's studios in Swansea, 'Purely Acoustic' is a varied collection of Russell & Rob's most loved tunes with their own unique touch on each track. Instantly recognisable and beautifully played, Eleanor Rigby sits comfortably alongside Bach's Minuet In C with The Theme From Hawaii 5-0 just as moving without all those rolling drums.
Arguably the best tracks on here are the 3 self penned originals : Sunset, Daybreak & Sitting on the fence easily match the high standard of covers - even the joyous Andante In C by Mauro Giuliani !
Often to be seen at The Brit, public house in Cwmavon, Port Talbot, R & R Acoustic should be on your 'must see' list - you could even grab yourself a copy of this gem of an album !
